How to Measure Your Kitchen or Vanity for a Countertop Quote

Simple Steps to Get an Accurate Estimate

Before we can provide a quote for your new countertop, we’ll need some basic measurements. You don’t need to be exact — a rough sketch with approximate dimensions is all we need to get started. Once your project is approved, we’ll visit your home or site for laser-accurate templating.

Here’s how you can measure your kitchen or vanity countertops quickly and easily.

What You’ll Need

  • Tape measure

  • Pencil or pen

  • Paper (graph paper is helpful, but not required)

  • Optional: phone or camera to take pictures of your layout

Step-by-Step Guide: Measuring Kitchen Countertops

1. Draw the Layout
Start by sketching the shape of your kitchen from a top-down view. Include all countertop sections — including islands, peninsulas, or coffee stations. Label each section (A, B, C, etc.) for clarity.

2. Measure Length & Depth
For each section:

  • Measure the length (left to right)

  • Measure the depth (front to back) — standard countertop depth is 25.5″, but measure yours to be sure

3. Mark Appliances & Fixtures
Note the location of:

  • Sink(s)

  • Stove or cooktop

  • Fridge or dishwasher

  • Any full-height backsplash or wall coverings

4. Include Overhangs (If Applicable)
If you’d like an overhang for seating (like on an island or bar), add that dimension and label it clearly.

5. Note Backsplash or Wall Return
If you want a matching backsplash or small return against the wall, note the desired height (e.g. 4″, full-height).

6. Send Photos (Optional, but Helpful)
A couple of quick photos of your kitchen layout can help us visualize your space and eliminate any confusion.

Measuring a Vanity Top

1. Measure Vanity Width
Measure from the far left edge to the far right edge of the vanity cabinet.

2. Measure Vanity Depth
Measure from the front edge to the wall (typically 21″ deep, but confirm).

3. Note Sink Placement
If your sink is centered, write “centered sink.” If it’s offset or there are two sinks, indicate measurements between sinks and from the edge to each sink.

4. Add Backsplash Info
Indicate if you want a backsplash (and how high), or a side splash on one or both ends.

Optional Add-Ons to Mention

To provide the most accurate quote, let us know if you want:

  • Cutouts for sinks, faucets, or cooktops

  • A specific edge profile

  • A waterfall or full-height backsplash

  • Undermount sink installation

  • Matching surfaces for shelves, walls, or windowsills

What Happens Next?

Once we receive your sketch and measurements, we’ll:

  1. Prepare an itemized quote

  2. Help you select materials and edge profiles

  3. Schedule a laser template for exact measurements

  4. Begin fabrication and book installation
